The Northern Adelaide Waste Management Authority (NAWMA) is a regional subsidiary formed under the Local Government Act (SA) 1999 to provide best practice waste management and resource recovery services.  NAWMA operates several world class facilities managing significant volumes of waste and recyclable material on behalf of its Constituent Councils, City of Salisbury, City of Playford and Town of Gawler.  NAWMA is about to embark on an exciting ecological transformation towards its goal of zero waste to landfill and playing its part in decarbonising the North.

NAWMA is administered by a Board in accordance with the requirements of the Local Government Act (1999), the NAWMA Charter and other various policies. With a mission to deliver world-class recycling and waste management services to its Constituent and client Councils, the NAWMA Board is responsible for the overall governance, management, and strategic direction of the organisation.

The retirement of the current Chair, has created an exciting opportunity for an experienced Chair to lead a diverse Board, working closely with the CEO to ensure the vision and passion for the organisation is realised within a structure of governance and leadership, robust strategic planning, sound financial management and the highest standards of safety, innovation, and quality.

The Chair is of fundamental importance to NAWMA and is responsible for the leadership of the Board and acts as an important link between the Board, its Constituent Councils and NAWMA’s executive via the CEO. As the spokesperson for the organisation, you will require exceptional stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Applications are encouraged from appropriately qualified professionals with demonstrated Chair experience, within complex, legislated and regulated environments, particularly through periods of transformation. As a Non-Executive Chair, you will have:

  • financial, political, and commercial acumen.
  • experience in developing large scale infrastructure projects.
  • established networks across the Private, State Government and Local Government sectors.

AICD credentials are essential to the role, and experience in the Waste & Resource Recovery Industry or local government organisation is an advantage.
